CDO as a Service

What it does

Plenty of organizations need a Chief Data Officer’s decisions — strategy, governance, architecture, compliance — long before they can justify a full-time CDO search. The usual result is that those decisions get made by default: by whichever vendor called first, or by nobody. CDO as a Service puts a working data executive in those decisions at a fraction of the commitment.

The engagement covers what a CDO owns: a data strategy and roadmap tied to business outcomes; governance that people actually follow (including AI governance — both governing your AI and using AI to govern); the operational disciplines of DataOps and FinOps, so quality and cloud spend stay measured and managed; compliance readiness; and the architecture and vendor decisions that are expensive to get wrong.

On the big bets, we don’t just advise — we test. Architecture and tooling decisions can be run through our Data Strategy Simulator first, so the recommendation arrives with grounded costs and evidence instead of a slide deck and a vendor quote. And the goal is always to make the role unnecessary: we build the practices and the team, then scale ourselves down.

The approach

  • Strategy that ships. Quarterly roadmaps with owners and measures — a strategy you execute, not a binder you admire.
  • Governance that enables. Top-down policy nobody follows is theater. We build guardrails into the workflows people already use.
  • Spend is a first-class metric. FinOps from day one: every pipeline and platform decision carries its cost, so the data function can defend its budget with numbers.
  • Decisions you can defend. Major recommendations come with evidence — simulated, costed, documented — that survives the board meeting and the audit.
